About
For Russell Lewis, photography isn’t just about snapping pictures—it’s about capturing moments that transport you back in time. “I can vividly remember the first eight photos I ever took,” he says. “The warmth of the sun, the smells in the air… That’s the magic of photography—it’s like a time machine.”
Russell’s journey began with a humble Baby Brownie Special, a family heirloom passed down by his dad. From that first roll of film, he was hooked. Fast forward to 1999, and he was graduating with a degree in Photography from the University of Plymouth. A stint managing a high street photo lab gave him invaluable experience, but it was the stacks of wedding photos he processed each week that shaped his future. “Looking through hundreds of wedding shots every Monday morning was like a masterclass in storytelling,” he recalls.
His break into wedding photography came naturally. A customer, having discovered his photography degree, asked him to shoot an event. One gig led to another, and soon Russell’s lab doubled as a gallery for his wedding work. By 2006, he had fully committed to wedding photography, selling the lab to dedicate himself entirely to capturing love stories across Herefordshire, the West Midlands, and beyond.
Over two decades in the industry, Russell has seen wedding photography evolve from stiff, traditional portraits to a more natural, documentary-style approach. He embraces this change wholeheartedly. “A good wedding photographer doesn’t just take photos; they help the day flow smoothly,” he says. His clients often remark that he was “more than just a photographer,” from sewing dresses to calming nerves and even once lending a bride his socks to save her shoes!
With experience photographing nearly 200 wedding venues, even as far as New Zealand, Russell has honed an approach that blends candid moments with structured portraits—without taking over the day. “I always say, your wedding isn’t a photoshoot. It’s your day to enjoy, and my job is to capture it beautifully without getting in the way.”
Whether orchestrating a seamless group shot or finding the perfect light for an intimate portrait, Russell’s philosophy remains the same: keep things relaxed, fun, and stress-free. “At the end of the day, it’s about creating memories that feel real and last a lifetime.”
