About:

Joanne, the passionate photographer behind Five Freedoms Photography, has combined her love for animals and photography to create a business that truly makes a difference. Her journey began with a strong bond with dogs, and it was her involvement in dog rescue that sparked her interest in pet photography. “I wanted to help adoptable dogs be seen and valued through beautiful imagery, knowing how much good photos can help talented individuals get noticed,” Joanne explains.

This mission has been at the core of her work, and over the years, Joanne has photographed more than 700 dogs of all breeds, ages, and energy levels. “I get paid in sloppy kisses, tail wags, and dog hair, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world,” she says, highlighting the joy and fulfilment she finds in her work. Beyond capturing stunning images of pets, Joanne has raised over $50K for rescue organisations and donates 10% of her client sales back to rescue efforts.

Her accolades include being a HeartsSpeak Artist, a member of The Tilly Project, and an active volunteer with WakeGov Pets. She has also studied under world-renowned pet photographers like Kaylee Greer and Nicole Begley and attended the first-ever Dog Photography Conference, Shutterhound.

Joanne’s expertise extends beyond typical pet photography, offering emotional end-of-life sessions for families who want to capture precious memories with their ageing or terminally ill pets. Her approach is centred on the idea of creating beautiful, custom artwork for clients to cherish forever.

“Every dog has a story, and I want to help you tell that story in a way that celebrates your pet’s unique spirit,” she adds.
